OATH OF OFFICE
1992
Wine is fine, candy is dandy.
Happiness is nice, but I'll take power instead.
In the way that I think, like good sex or a drink,
the best things in life go straight to your head.
I've heard the line that money can't buy you love.
I'm above all that now, I've transcended humanity.
A place in history, and a home on the hill.
No one is strong enough to accuse me of vanity.
I've seen the people
Satisfied
Living in poverty
Still got their pride.
I know the difference. I won't make that mistake.
I'll go the distance. There's too much at stake.
I've seen your looks, see some of you don't like me.
That's a small price to pay; I don't need that from you.
Because you'd have to be like me to withhold what I need.
People are too honest, there's not much you can do.
And every fourth November you'll take someone like me,
put him in the driver's seat, give him command.
And he'll steer you off the road, and then blame it on you.
Likely as not you'll let him do it again.
You give me power
Believe my lies
Living in poverty
Can't use your eyes.
I know the difference. I know what you'll buy.
You'll never stop me 'cause you won't even try.
I could tell you and tell you, and you'd still never hear
my secret, my method:
I prey on your fear.
I play your Santa Claus, but I make you my elves
'Cause if you're frightened of me
you're scared as hell of yourselves.
