(I'M NOT) THE ENEMY
1993
I'm not responsible for the sins of my ancestors, I -
I'm not a party to the crimes that made the world what it is today, I -
I'm just a normal guy, tryin' to live my life,
stuck with repairs to make, and debts to pay.
I'm talkin' 'bout my generation.
We're the ones who inherited a nation
and a world on the edge, gonna fall into decay.
I'm sick of listening to people's excuses.
We got a job to do, and your abuse is
gettin' in the way. It ain't fun,
but you can hate me when we're done.
Solo
Look at how the world represents me.
I've got four strikes against me:
I'm an angry young white man. (...so?)
We're in the same boat, goin' upstream,
but you don't want me to row.
There's one thing you should know:
Ya gotta see we're all the same,
the generation with a letter for a name.
We're the ones who gotta carry the flame,
or we carry the blame.
"Do nothing," the cry of the weak!
And they got no right to speak.
They're the meek. And the meek shall inherit...
NOTHING!
Solo
Education, fallin' by the wayside.
Racial hatred labeled as pride.
Kids use each other for target practice,
fightin' everybody but the people who jacked us.
Cities on flame with rocked-up coke,
and the government's broke.
We're the laughingstock, but we don't get the joke!
Maybe there's one thing we can agree on:
Everybody wants somebody else to be the peon.
Powers that be, playin' games with our freedom.
If you can't join 'em, BEAT 'EM!
I'm not the enemy.
I'm not the bad guy.
